Luc Gnacadja was the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) from 2007 to 2013. In that capacity, he has been the architect of the concept of “land degradation neutrality”, a concept he has successfully promoted during the Rio+20 Summit in June 2012 and that became SDG target 15.3. He also served from 1999 to 2005 as Minister of Environment and Urban Development of his country Benin. He is the founder and president of GPS-Dev (Governance & Policies for Sustainable Development), a think tank whose mission is to make governance systems more conducive to sustainable development, especially in Africa.
