Countries have made ambitious commitments to restore degraded ecosystems, but fragmented monitoring systems and reporting requirements can hinder progress. At CBD COP-17, the side event “One Restoration Agenda – Delivering across the Rio Conventions for Biodiversity, Land and Climate: The Role of the Target 2 Road Map” will explore how countries can better coordinate restoration planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
Taking place on 23 October 2026 in Yerevan, Armenia, the event will be led by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), FAO and the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER).
Through technical demonstrations and country experiences, the session will showcase how connecting tools such as the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM), the CBD Online Reporting Tool and the UNCCD reporting system can reduce reporting burdens, improve data consistency and support more effective restoration planning. Regional technical and scientific cooperation centres will also highlight how they help countries address shared challenges, while the event will feature the launch of the joint Target 2 in Focus publication by the CBD and SER.
Discover how the Target 2 Road Map can help turn restoration commitments into coordinated action across biodiversity, climate and land.
