What changes when communities move from participating in restoration to leading it?

Farmers, forest users, Indigenous Peoples and local communities play a vital role in restoring landscapes and protecting biodiversity. At CBD COP-17, this interactive session will explore how community-led restoration can strengthen ecosystems, improve livelihoods and advance global biodiversity targets.

Drawing on experiences from Africa, Asia and South America, speakers will share practical examples of community-led restoration and explore how stronger rights, local leadership, supportive policies and access to finance can help scale up action. The session will highlight opportunities to connect community priorities with national restoration plans and accelerate implementation of Target 2 of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Discover how empowering communities to lead can help restore nature and build resilient livelihoods.
