Omar Es-sadki signed 6 pledges to take action to prevent, halt, and reverse the loss of ecosystems.

Omar's pledges include:

  • Mountains:

Mountains are a great source of recreation! They are playgrounds for hikers, climbers, mountain bikers, skiers or everyone just looking for a great view. On your next trip to a mountain destination, take sustainable transport, choose tour operators that respect the natural environment, do not litter and maybe even take part in a mountain restoration project.

  • Oceans and coasts:

Mobilize all ages to gather the masses of waste and abandoned fishing gear that wash up on our beaches and shores. Refuse, reduce and recycle plastics and other materials to keep them out of landfills.

  • Oceans and coasts:

Reduce your plastic consumption by switching to alternatives for single-use plastic.

Recycle plastics and other materials to keep them out of landfill. Stop using avoidable and unnecessary plastic products. Which plastic products are you still using? Is there a sustainable alternative?

  • Urban areas:

Plant an indigenous plant sapling on your windowsill or put out a home-made bird feeder with seeds in your outdoor space to invite feathered friends and insects. Reduce the frequency of mowing your lawns, yard, business premises or school.

  • Urban areas:

Find and support initiatives to restore waterways and wetlands, plant indigenous trees, and create urban woodland and other wildlife habitats along roads and railways and in public spaces. Link to local groups and efforts that aim to make your home a greener, nature-friendly space. Find inspiration from the Generation Restoration Cities.

  • Grasslands, Shrublands and Savannahs:

Overgrazing and conversion to monoculture pose big threats to grasslands and related ecosystems. Choose sustainable products – and if you eat meat, look out for products based on regenerative agriculture.
