Hosted by the World Economic Forum and partners on Thursday July 20, 10:30-11:15am EDT, you’re welcome to join a dynamic discussion on critical investment and engagement opportunities to support Canada’s forest conservation efforts, as well as its restoration goals in support of Canada's 2 Billion Trees Program.

At the UN Biodiversity Conference COP15 in 2022, the Government of Canada made an initial pledge of approximately 19 million hectares through federal programs by three departments that support on-the-ground landscape and ecosystem restoration activities, including the 2 Billion Trees Program. The 2 Billion Trees Program will partner with governments and organisations to plant two billion trees over 10 years. Canada also helped lead the world to the agreement on the monumental Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework which sets out an ambitious pathway to reach the global vision of a world living in harmony with nature by 2050. In support of these efforts, leading Canadian forest organisations and communities have joined the growing 1t.org community, which supports the movement to conserve, restore and grow 1 trillion trees by 2030 for the benefit of people, biodiversity and the climate.

Key speakers:

  • Susy Domenicano, Executive Director of the 2 Billion Trees Program (2BT), Natural Resources Canada, Government of Canada.
  • Nicole Schwab, Director of 1t.org and Co-Head of Nature Positive pillar at the World Economic Forum
  • Derrick Emsley, CEO and Co-Founder of tentree & veritree and Chair of the 1t.org Canada Council
  • Steven Nitah, Managing Director, Nature for Justice; Member of the Lutsel K’e Dene First Nation

1t.org, the World Economic Forum’s trillion trees initiative, is designed to support the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 whose goals are to accelerate global restoration of degraded ecosystems, to fight the climate crisis, enhance food security, provide clean water and protect biodiversity on the planet.
