Closing the Funding Gap for SME Climate Innovation

This webinar will explore how climate mitigation finance can become more accessible, practical, and actionable for SMEs and financial institutions. While climate finance is increasingly available, many SMEs still face technical and institutional barriers that prevent them from accessing it. According to estimates from the International Chamber of Commerce, climate finance opportunities for SMEs reached USD 789 billion in 2023; however, only 3% of interested SMEs submitted a formal application, and just 1% successfully accessed financing.

Bringing together experts from finance, international organizations, academia, and key economic sectors, the discussion will examine how SMEs can move from general climate ambition toward finance-ready mitigation opportunities, and how financial institutions can better identify, assess, and support these opportunities.

The agenda:

  • Technical Barriers
  • GHG Monitoring
  • Tourism, Agribusiness and Fisheries Cases
  • Working Paper Launch: The Climate Finance Framework

The webinar will also mark the release of Green Initiative’s Climate Mitigation Finance Framework, developed to help bridge this technical gap by providing practical guidance for SMEs, financial institutions, and development partners seeking to structure, assess, and scale credible climate mitigation opportunities.
