ADURAGBEMI PAUL ALALEKOWOSI signed 5 pledges to take action to prevent, halt, and reverse the loss of ecosystems.

ADURAGBEMI PAUL's pledges include:

  • Oceans and coasts:

Reduce your plastic consumption by switching to alternatives for single-use plastic.

Recycle plastics and other materials to keep them out of landfill. Stop using avoidable and unnecessary plastic products. Which plastic products are you still using? Is there a sustainable alternative?

  • Grasslands, Shrublands and Savannahs:

You could look out for local bird watchers – they are often very aware of the health of grasslands. Approaches to revive grasslands include getting rid of invasive species, re-introducing native grasses or grazing animals, and sustainably managing livestock. Take inspiration from the Altyn Dala Initiative or explore others on the Ecosystem Restoration Hub.

  • Farmlands:

Did you know that one spoon of healthy soil can contain more organisms than there are people on Earth? Composting kitchen waste and using it either in your garden, balcony or plot, or contributing it to a collection scheme can help give life back to land!

  • Forests:

There are many organizations, big and small, concerned with forests. They are working together to promote sound forest management and conservation practices. Find one in an area you care about, for example through the Ecosystem Restoration Hub.

  • Mountains:

Mountains and hillsides are home to many crops that thrive in these special conditions – like tea, coffee or rice. Food grown in the plains benefits from the water coming down from intact mountain ecosystems. Sustainable farming – for example through including trees on farmlands – can help stabilize mountain soil, prevent erosion and capture water.
