From November 22nd to 24th, FAO, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Environment Programme will be co-hosting a significant workshop focused on developing a roadmap for supporting ecosystem restoration under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework  at FAO headquarters in Rome. Over the course of three days, more than 100 participants will come together to engage in discussions covering a wide range of topics, including progress and alignment between the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted under the CBD, unpacking Target 2 of the Framework, transparent monitoring, large-scale restoration commitments, stakeholder inclusion, capacity needs, and financing.

The meeting aims to foster collaboration, share insights, and develop a roadmap for effectively planning and implementing the global Biodiversity Framework Target 2, ensuring that at least 30% of degraded terrestrial, inland water, and marine and coastal ecosystems are under effective restoration by 2030, enhancing biodiversity, integrity, connectivity, and ecosystem functions and services.
