In May 2024, the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Business Enhancement Group (BEG) initiated a research project to investigate the different opportunities available to mobilise private sector finance for the World Restoration Flagships. 

The project focused on one Flagship (the Trinational Atlantic Forest Pact Flagship) to provide an in-depth case study which was designed to:

• Investigate new approaches to private sector partnerships, moving away from traditional donor-based interactions.
• Explore opportunities for the Flagship to secure long-term finance from the private sector through the provision of restoration services.
• Develop an end-to-end methodology which can be shared and replicated by other World Restoration Flagships to promote their access to finance.
