This is the second webinar in the Restore HER Rights Initiative Webinar Series. This session will showcase real-world experiences of women and communities leading gender-inclusive restoration efforts. Through inspiring stories, it will highlight challenges, successes, and lessons learned, demonstrating how integrating gender equality strengthens resilience, enhances biodiversity conservation, and ensures more sustainable and inclusive restoration outcomes.
Denis Wakaba will share how Gender Equity, Disability & Social Inclusion (GEDSI) principles have been integrated into landscape restoration efforts in Laikipia and Makueni, Kenya. He will highlight inclusive approaches that empower marginalised groups, focusing on gender equity, disability inclusion, and sustainable outcomes through participatory, socially responsive environmental projects led by CIFOR-ICRAF.
Aracelly Jiménez Mora and Griselda Alvarado Picado will share the participatory management and self determination efforts of women mollusk collectors in Chomes, Costa Rica. Their presentation highlights community-led conservation, gender equity in coastal livelihoods, and key demands shaping advocacy ahead of Oceans Day, emphasising women’s voices, rights, and leadership in marine resource governance and sustainability.
Gloria Ayediga will explore landscape degradation in northern Ghana, emphasising gender disparities in restoration. She will introduce the gender integration continuum, a theory of change, and showcase a case study applying the Gender Transformative Approach, highlighting results and opportunities to scale gender-responsive strategies for more equitable restoration outcomes.
